Better Than People

I'm going to come right out and say it: I liked Frozen. It took me a long time to actually watch it after everyone IN THE WORLD started talking about it, but I finally watched. I especially liked Reindeer(s) Are Better Than People, because even the least cynical of us agree that our pets are better companions than humans, because you can always count on them to cheer you up.
I hope you all recognize me (the guy on the right), because I've dressed up to play the part for Berry's Movie Meme. Sing along with me!

Trim Your Tree

It's another ROMP weekend!.
I saw a few festive themed items, and I decided I HAD to do a Christmas song for today's post. Considering that ROMP is a celebration of adult items, why not celebrate with an adult Christmas song. (And there are a lot of holiday songs with double entendres!)

Have a great weekend, and do some ROMPing.

"Trim Your Tree" by Jimmy Butler
I’m gonna bring along my hatchet
my beautiful Christmas balls
I’ll sprinkle my snow up on your tree
and hang my mistletoe on your wall
Baby, I’ll make you cheery
Baby, you’ll call me ‘dearie’
Baby, I want to trim you
Now come on, girl. I want to trim your tree

"Knee Socks" by Arctic Monkeys

Well you cured my January blues
Yeah you made it all alright
I got a feeling I might have lit the very fuse
That you were trying not to light
You were a stranger in my phonebook I was acting like I knew
'Cause I had nothing to lose
When the winter's in full swing and your dreams just aren't coming true
Ain't it funny what you'll do

Live Wire

He wasn't what you'd think of as a hero.... covered in tattoos, always drinking, and always angry.
Yet when lightning struck a power pole during a freak storm while he attended a bush party, he didn't hesitate to jump in the water to save his drinking buddies, not even thinking about the high current running through the power wires. When lightning struck twice while he handled the cables, he gained his super powers.
While he may never be invited to join a hero club with all of the goody two-shoes heroes, he accepted his gift, determined to do some good.... he even accepted the name his buddies gave him, "Live Wire."

Live Wire (performed by Cadillac Three)
Plug me in
I'm alive tonight
Out on the streets again
Turn me on
I'm too hot to stop
Something you'll never forget
Take my fist
Break down walls
I'm on top tonight
No, no
You better turn me loose
You better set me free
Cause I'm hot, young, running free
A little bit better than I use to be

Still The Same

Berry's meme this week is 20 Personal SL Questions. It was a lot of work answering them all, but fun.
As I started answering, I thought about the changes to SL over the years, and while some of the technology has changed, I don't think personal interactions have changed much, which is why I chose the song "Still The Same".
However, if you compare my avatar over the seven years, it's changed a little, even if my stle is the same. The location in both photos is Calleta's Hobo Railyard.

  • When and how did you discover Second Life? – I discovered it in May 2007 after reading about it somewhere, maybe Wired.
  • Did you know about virtual worlds before or was this your first experience with them? – No, I didn’t. I expected to land in and move between a series of rooms. I had no idea it would be so much more like a world.
  • Has Second Life met your expectations? – All I'd wanted to to find something interesting to do on slow days, and SL has done more than that.
  • If you could teleport back to the first ten minutes of your avatar’s slife, what would you tell yourself? – I'd ask someone for help finding better freebies.
  • How long did it take you to master avatar flying and driving vehicles inworld? – Flying was never a problem. But, does anyone truly have driving vehicles mastered? After 7 years, it's still impossible to cross a sim border gracefully.
  • Do you have a mystery alt? – I have a few that I use as property owners, but my friends know who they are.
  • Is your SL avatar a reflection of you, or someone you wished you could be? – Billy is the same laid back guy that the typist is. He just has better abs.
  • Is there an individual you met in SL that inspired you in your RL? How? – I've been inspired by several of my friends in different ways, whether it's to focus on goals, achieve something healthy, or learn new things.
  • Do you feel it is easier to create stronger bonds/relationships with people you meet inworld as opposed to the real world? – It's very different, but yes, you can make stronger bonds in SL. I think the effort put into written conversations helps with that.
  • Did you ever imagine or believe people could fall in love with someone they never met before Second Life? –No, I would have never imagined that before joining SL. Since then, I understand.
  • How has your perspective of dating changed (or not) since you started playing second life? – No.
  • How has your perspective of employment changed (or not) since you started playing second life? – No.
  • Name three things in both your lives that overlap each other significantly. – Hmmmm, this is a hard one for me since I don’t really make a living here but I guess I can say friendships, creative inspiration and socialization.
  • If you could live your life more immersively in a virtual world, would you? (Kind of like the Matrix) – I'm ok with a few hours a day (or week), thanks.
  • How do you think behavior changes for people if they’re inworld vs in real world? Why do you think that is? – I don't think that this has anything to do with being in a virtual world. Being ANYWHERE on the internet makes a lot of people more stupid.
  • How has second life consumerism changed your perception of spending habits, the value of money, the need to be “bleeding edge” with fashion? – This hasn't changed me. I buy stuff that I want or need, same as RL.
  • Do you think virtual worlds like SL drive and redefine human interaction or do they narrow and limit it? – Remember 2008 when they went on the big push to make SL a place for conferences and meetings for businesses? SL users get it. Virtual worlds COULD make human interaction so much easier for people thousands of miles apart, but unless you're an SL user, it's hard to comprehend.
  • If technology progressed tomorrow to allow you to send emotions to people the way you’d send text or voice messages, would it enrich your SL experience or infringe on it? – SL can be overwhelming enough without that, thank you very much!
  • Name three skills you attribute to having learned or honed in second life alone. – Time wasting, cropping photos, and making playlists.
  • If your grand kids googled your Second Life Avatar’s name, would they be intrigued, disgusted, proud or something else? – They'll never know.

  • "Still The Same" by Bob Seger
You always said, the cards would never do you wrong
The trick you said was never piay the game too long
A gambler's share, the only risk that you would take
The only loss you could forsake
The only bluff you couldn't fake

    And you're still the same
I caught up with you yesterday
    Moving game to game
No one standing in your way
    Turning on the charm
Long enough to get you by
    You're still the same
